The order of the day in Hong Kong this week is abstraction: monumental and microscopic, minimal and maximal, monochrome and technicolor–a good number of the city’s galleries seem to be getting in on the act. All this calls for a quiet spot to rest the eyes, and upstairs bar Afterschool, off a busy street in Causeway Bay is the perfect answer. With reclaimed wooden detailing and desks borrowed from old-fashioned classrooms, owner and designer Pokit Poon has built a haven for his artistic friends and clientèle. And with his distributor connections at Art iT and Domus, there’s always fresh material on the shelves for anyone looking to do their homework.
